The Experimental
Aircraft Association (EAA) Young Eagles Program offers
kids the chance of a lifetime -- to turn dreams
into reality. The EAA is giving everyone between
the ages of ages 8 and 17 an opportunity to fly
in a private airplane with a qualified pilot.
It's safe.
It's fun. It's free. And it's fantastic! The
present Chairman of the Young Eagles Program is
Harrison Ford.
Soar
High With The Young Eagles!
By experiencing a Young
Eagle flight, you'll join the more than one million
Young Eagles who have entered the wild blue yonder.
Our goal
was to
have 1,000,000 young people grace the skies by
the 100th anniversary of flight in the year 2003 and
that goal was met in October of 2003.
Youth
get quality, one-on-one time with EAA pilots. The
hope
is that the experience will spark a young person's
curiosity to learn more and that this free flight
will
encourage these children to become interested in aviation
as a career or hobby when they get older. Each
Young Eagle participant receives a certificate and
is entered into the "World's
Largest Logbook," maintained
by the EAA Air Adventure Museum.
The
Young Eagles flights are provided free of charge by
the pilot of the airplane. The pilot donates his time,
airplane, insurance, and the fuel required to conduct
the flights. Young Eagle flights usually last about
15 minutes. Thanks go to all the pilots and volunteers
that make this program an enormous success.
When conceived, it was hoped that 1 million children
could receive a free flight by the 100th anniversary
of the first powered flight by the Wright Brothers
in December 2003. Even though that goal has been
met and exceeded, the flights continue to introduce
our youngsters to the glory of flight. Although
most EAA chapters conduct a rally once or twice
a year,
Young Eagles
flights
occur all year long. Remember, when you see an
airplane overhead,
it may just be a Young Eagles flight giving that child
his or her first airplane ride!
How
Safe is Flying?
Flying in an airplane
is safer than many other forms of recreation. Each
Eagle
Flight takes place in an FAA registered airplane by
a licensed pilot and member of the EAA. The flight
is conducted according
to federal regulations. No aerobatic or non-standard
flown maneuvers will be performed.
Can
Parents Fly Too?
Please remember that this event is for children and
young adults between the ages of 8 and 17.
Parents are welcome to accomapny your children onto the field and ask questions
of the pilots but we ask that they remain on the
field while the children take their flights.
A
Few Rules
Eagle Flight candidates wishing to participate must
be between the ages of 8 and 17 and must be accompanied
by a parent or guardian. Parents should remain at the
airport with your Young Eagle! Also, each candidate's
parent or guardian must fill out a registration
form.
Every attempt will be made to fly all youths who want
to fly.
Millions
of people fly safely in airplanes every year. However,
an airport is not a playground. Listen and follow
instructions
given by the ground crew and pilots. Listen carefully
for instructions on entering and exiting the airplane.
Do not touch any part of an airplane without the
pilot's
permission and stay away from the propellers at all
time.
